Countdown to Christmas: Make Your Own Felt Chain Link Garland!
Happy November 1st everyone! The holiday season is upon us, and what better way to build excitement than with a DIY Felt Chain Link for your Christmas tree? This fun and easy project is perfect for the whole family and adds a personal touch to your festive decorations. Let's gather our supplies and get started on this delightful craft!
Step 1: Plan Your Countdown
Decide how many days you want your countdown to cover. Traditionally, advent calendars start on December 1st, so you would need 24 links. But you can adjust the number according to when you find this tutorial :)
Step 2: Cut the Felt Strips
-
Measure and Cut: We cut our felt strips 3" wide and 6" long. Cut out as many strips as you need for your countdown.Tip: Mixing different colors or prints makes your chain that much better!
Step 4: Assemble the Chain Links
- Create the First Link: Put a line of hot glue on one end of the loop and then attach the other end of it to make a circle.
- Add Subsequent Links: Take the next strip, thread it through the first loop to interlink them, and repeat the gluing process.
- Continue Linking: Repeat until all strips are connected, forming a chain.
Step 5: Hang Your Countdown Chain
- Choose a Spot: Drape your chain on the Christmas tree, along a mantel, or across a doorway.
- Start the Countdown: Beginning on your chosen start date, remove one link each day leading up to Christmas.
Tips and Tricks
- Uniform Links: Ensure all your strips are the same size for a neat and consistent look.
- Alternate Colors: Create a pattern by alternating colors (e.g., red, gold, and green like we did) for a classic holiday vibe.
- Get Creative: Personalize your chain with family members' names or special holiday messages.
