Fall Felt Frame Inspo & Tutorial

Bring a little bit of fall indoors with this sweet felt acorn frame. This project combines cozy textures, simple shapes, and a few pretty details for a handmade piece that looks right at home on a gallery wall, shelf, or tucked into a seasonal display.

What You'll Need

Your choice of wool blend felt

1 sheet of printed felt

Felt leaves

Felt star die cuts

Scissors/Cricut Maker

Small embroidery hoop

Lace or decorative ribbon

Fabric glue or another preferred adhesive

How to Make It

Start by choosing your background felt and fitting it into the embroidery hoop. We went with a muted stripe for a little extra visual interest, but a solid felt would work just as well.

Next, cut out your acorn pieces from felt. A Cricut Maker is especially handy here for getting clean, consistent shapes. Layer the acorn cap over the body and secure the pieces in place.

Add a few felt leaves around the acorn to create a loose, scattered arrangement. For a little pop of color, we used our felt star die cuts as an unexpected detail. They add just enough contrast without taking away from the earthy palette.

Once everything is arranged the way you like it, secure the pieces to the background. Trim any excess felt from around the back of the hoop and finish the top with a small lace bow.

And that's it! A simple hoop becomes a tiny piece of autumn artwork with just a few pieces of felt.

Make It Your Own

This project is easy to customize for your own fall color palette. Try warm rusts, mustard, olive, and cream for a traditional autumn look, or keep things soft with dusty pinks, sage, and oatmeal. You could also swap the acorn for a pumpkin, mushroom, apple, or another favorite seasonal shape.

Sometimes the best seasonal décor is the smallest kind. A little felt, a few scraps, and an embroidery hoop can turn into something you'll want to bring out every fall.
