Felt Patriotic Star Wand Tutorial

This easy DIY felt USA star wand is ready for parades, backyard celebrations, and every tiny firework fan’s July 4th basket. We made ours with a navy felt star, hand-cut white “USA” lettering, and a fluttery bundle of red, white, and blue ribbon for a little extra star-spangled flair.

The best part: it is a beginner-friendly craft with no sewing required. A few cuts, a little glue, some polyfill, and you have a soft patriotic wand that feels equal parts festive decoration and pretend-play treasure.

Supplies Needed

Felt of choice

Scissors

Hot glue (or sewing supplies!)

Wooden Dowel

Polyfill

Ribbon

Step 1: Cut the Felt Stars

Make two matching felt stars using your Cricut Maker, your hand, or some of our star die cuts.

Step 2: Add the Dowel and Stuff the Star

Place the front and back star pieces together. Glue around the outer edges, leaving an opening at the bottom for the dowel and a small section unglued for stuffing.

Add a small amount of polyfill between the two felt layers. You only need enough to give the star a soft, puffy shape.

Slide the wooden dowel into the bottom opening, add a little hot glue to hold it in place, then glue the remaining edges closed.

Step 3: Tie on the Ribbon

Gather a mix of red, white, and blue ribbons. We tied ours in a knot and then added a bigger bow to the front!

Your Patriotic Wand Is Ready! Let's Decorate It!

Now that you have your wand, you can decorate it however you'd like! We hand-cut some "USA" letters for the front of ours, but you could also add more stars, a flag, or whatever you can think of! Make one for a Fourth of July party favor, a festive kids’ table activity, or a sweet handmade accessory for watching fireworks.
