Tips & Tricks for Working with Pebbled Leather

Crafting with faux pebbled leather sheets is so versatile and can be so much fun! Whether you're making accessories, home decor items, or embellishing clothing, faux pebbled leather offers a unique texture and aesthetic that can elevate any project, and once you know how to work with it, super simple too! Today we are sharing some handy techniques and tips to make working with your pebbled leather a breeze and to help you get the most out of your crafting time!
Using The Right Tools
Having the appropriate tools can make a world of difference when working with faux pebbled leather. Invest in sharp fabric scissors or a rotary cutter for precise cutting, and use clips to hold your fabric in place while sewing. Clips wont leave holes in your leather like pins will. Additionally, when sewing with the pebbled leather, it is helpful to use a leather needle and a Teflon foot on your sewing machine to prevent sticking and bunching and achieve smooth stitches.
Using a Cutting Machine
If you are using a cutting machine such as a Cricut, it is best to use one with a rotary blade like the Cricut Maker. We use either the leather or glitter felt cut setting to cut through and it cuts with ease. We also recommend using a strong grip mat to keep your leather from sliding around when being cut.
Adhesive
One of the nice things about working with this pebbled leather is that like felt, it does not fray. This means that you do not have to be an expert sewer or a sewer at all to craft with it. Pebbled leather will hold together nicely with a few different adhesives. The best option is to simply use a hot glue gun and glue to hold pieces together! Jewelry glue will also work as well as a gel super glue.
Experiment with Embellishments
Faux pebbled leather sheets are perfect for adding embellishments to your projects. Try experimenting with techniques like embossing, stamping, or painting to customize the texture and appearance of the fabric. You can also use studs, rhinestones, or embroidery to add extra flair to your creations.
Proper Care
To keep your faux pebbled leather projects looking their best, it's essential to practice proper care and maintenance. Avoid exposing them to extreme heat or moisture (this means no washing machines or irons), as this can cause damage to the fabric. Instead, gently wipe the surface with a damp cloth to remove any dirt or stains, and store your finished projects in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to avoid any color fading.
