Valentine's Heart Banner Tutorial

Nothing says Valentine’s Day quite like hearts, layers, and soft textures. This Valentine’s Heart Banner is the perfect way to add a handmade touch to mantels, shelves, party backdrops, or shop displays. Made with solid wool blend felt, layered printed felt, ribbon, and finished with luxe frayed chiffon bows, this project feels romantic, playful, and beautifully elevated.

Best of all? It’s beginner-friendly and completely customizable.

You Will Need:

2 Pieces of Solid Felt (Color is up to you! We went with alternating red and pink.)

3 Pieces of Printed Felt (Also your choice!)

Heart Template

Ribbon, string, or twine (We went with 7/8" grosgrain.)

Luxury Frayed Chiffon Ribbon (Or any ribbon you like!)

Hot glue or a strong craft glue

Scissors

❤️ Step 1: Cut Your Felt Hearts

Start by cutting heart shapes from your solid wool blend felt. These will be the base of your banner, so choose a size that feels bold and balanced for your space.

Next, cut slightly smaller hearts from your printed felt. These layered pieces add personality and contrast while maintaining a cohesive design.

Tip: Keep your printed hearts uniform in size for a polished look, or mix prints for a playful, collected feel.

✨ Step 2: Layer the Hearts

Using a small amount of glue, center each printed felt heart on top of a solid felt heart. Press gently and allow the layers to adhere fully before moving on.

This layered look adds depth and texture while letting both felt styles shine.

🧶 Step 3: Attach the Ribbon Backing

Flip each heart over and glue a strip of ribbon horizontally across the back. This ribbon will act as the connector for your banner, so be sure it’s straight and evenly placed.

Leave a little extra ribbon at each end so the banner can be easily hung once finished.

🎀 Step 4: Add Bows

Now for the finishing touch. Create small bows using luxury frayed chiffon ribbon, then glue one bow between each heart on the front side of the banner.

The soft texture and raw edges of the chiffon add a romantic, high-end feel that elevates the entire piece.

💕 Step 5: Style & Display

Once everything is secure, hang your Valentine’s Heart Banner on a mantel, shelf, doorway, or party backdrop. It also makes a beautiful handmade decoration for classrooms, boutiques, or Valentine’s gatherings.

This Valentine’s Heart Banner is the perfect blend of sweet and sophisticated. With layered felt, soft ribbon connections, and luxe chiffon bows, it’s a project that feels thoughtful, festive, and handmade in the best way.

Whether you’re crafting for your home, your shop, or a special event, this banner is sure to steal hearts 💘

Happy crafting!
